Heavy Hitter Support from DJ Lonnie B

I'm so grateful to my friend Lonnie Battle (DJ Lonnie B of the Heavy Hitters) for making this post on his Facebook page. There was so much support and a lot of incredibly inspiring comments made.

I spent so much time planning this campaign, it was hard to imagine the kind of impact (if any) it would have on my targeted millennial audience. I can only hope that people see the educational value of the series.

Tomorrow I release the official press release. This project is so relevant in our society today, as we struggle to find positive news of people of color. This helps to remind us of our perseverance, courage and remarkable will to succeed!

Since the official launch of the first episode, the support has been overwhelming. While working both social networks, I'm getting so much support via twitter. There is no better feeling than creating work that both educates and entertains people.

Heroes of Color - Pilot Episode

Finally launched the pilot episode for Heroes of Color.  An educational video series that celebrates the courage, perseverance and intellect of people of color. The diverse group of heroes includes Black, Native American, Latino and Filipino people to name a few.

The pilot episode tells the story of the 369th U.S Army Regiment, one of many segregated military units in 1918 sent to France during Word War 1. The 369th also known as "The Harlem Hellfighters" not only proved their worth, but became one of the most highly decorated military units in U.S. history. While they were highly decorated and honored in France, they were virtually ignored in the U.S. upon their return.

There are 26 episodes planned, provided that there is enough interest, financial backing and rights cleared to have these amazing stories told. Their accomplishments deserve to be celebrated, not buried in the past.

Sound design is done!

The toughest creative part of this project for me was the sound design. I wanted to add some sound efx and background voices that didn't clash with the narrator as he spoke. So I had to edit the narration clip a bit to make the sound efx fit in seamlessly. I think I did an amazing job on this and am incredibly excited to pitch this 26 episode instructional video series for online or tv.
