After some art instruction, I gave the students some tips on how to get their artwork noticed. The following week, 10 year old Jack, shared his story of what happened in school after he walked into class wearing one of the hats he designed in the Junior ARTrepreneurs art class. 

Week two ushered in some amazing custom hat designs. Many struggled with how to get their drawings from paper, onto the actual surface of the hats. We discussed some ideas on pricing the hats for custom designs. 

Class is now in session! Stuffing each students backpack with art supplies was fun. Thanks to the volunteers (Paige, Jacki, Josefina, David Jr. and Elisa) who helped get things started for week one. It was amazing to see how much talent our youth have. More importantly, it was great to give them an outlet to express themselves through art. 

Introduction to the class allowed students to work on multicultural art projects. Some worked on designing national flags, others took traditional foods or designs from their cultures and translated them into mini-masterpieces. 

Shopping for some art supplies, I noticed that Hobby Lobby had some sales on Canvases, and Walmart had some sales on acrylic paints. While I would not suggest buying apple barrel paints as they are pretty watered down, it could work well for small canvas projects. My favorite brand of acrylics are liquitex, though they are hardly ever on sale. Tubes cost about $6 each but they are great for all surfaces from fabric to wood.
