Last week I went on social media searching for four positions to be filled. Not only were the responses overwhelming, but it resulted in my followers growing. That was completely unexpected. I am not sure why new followers came on board but I am so glad to have them. They truly engaged with me and even helped me out by sharing and reposting my job posts. Keep finding ways to engage with your audiences. When they see the value, they go from followers to friends. It was truly a blessing. Always be clear about your mission and your intentions. People don't trust what you say, they trust what you do.

July 29, 2020 I was honored that Year Up asked me by to be the commencement speaker for the graduating class of 2020. It was an incredible difficult year for the students to have to navigate through, but their discipline and resilience proved just how prepared they are to handle any obstacles that life puts in their way.
Very few words can explain the gratitude I feel for the community, friends, family and supporters who made this possible. First Amazon sells out of their stock, two weeks later Target sells out. Now, Walmart sells out! This is an absolute dream come true and it was entirely due to the outstanding support that you have given me. Thank you so very much. I appreciate you so much!!!!
Goodreads has begun a Virtual Tour initiative, that they are inviting authors and illustrators to participate in. I responded with a one minute video, showing a virtual tour of where I created Little Heroes of Color (fans are always curious to see an author in their element), my book recommendations, and answering a question "How do you get inspired to write" from the “Ask the Author” question section at goodreads.com.
Powerful things can happen when you collaborate. There was no better collaboration than the one I had with my family. My brother Carlos and Niece Analia, teamed up to write and produce the (work in progress) Little Heroes of Color Musical. Listen to this entire video clip. It will totally blow you away. If you want to book us at your school or business, drop me an email right now!

Jan. 30th - New York City, NY will be a date that I will always remember. The School of Visual Arts invited me to give a 60 minute talk about my journey as an artist after graduation. The audience was full of current and alumni students. Many of them aspiring freelancers seeking some insights into how they can break into the freelance industry. The Freelance Hustle book was for sale and the book signing at the end of the evening was a dream come true. I sold out of all books and sold many art prints as well. The importance of sharing your story has the power to inspire and motivate people to try more, to do more and to believe more in themselves. It's a beautiful thing when artists support other artists. After a 10 minute pitch in April 2019, the judges made their comments and then opened up comments to the audience. Sitting in the front row was one of my favorite comic book artists who I have been following online for a little over a year. His comments that night were so inspiring and was such a beautiful example of what it means to put community over over competition. Instead of using the time to promote himself or his works, he continued to build our friendship and uplift me with his inspiring words. I was told to never get off of the stage to greet someone you know as it looks incredibly unprofessional. Well, I broke that rule - and you know what? I would do it again if someone was as genuine as Akinseye Brown was that night. check out the video, and then check out his work here - https://akinseyebrown.tumblr.com/
